We are delighted to be taking apart in this year St Patrick’s Festival. We will have our very own area at the Big Day Out. The Big Day Out is a free family fun day around Merrion Square on Saturday 16th of March from 12pm till 6pm. We will have some of last years makers TOG and 3D Dave showcasing projects and a live 3D printing demos. Also TOG will be running their famous learn to solder area, where kids of all ages can learn a fun skill.

If you want a feel of what this year Maker Faire will be like drop by and say hello, we are in the science area.

Dublin Mini Maker Faire is joining forces with The Gathering and Dublin’s new Festival of Curiosity, and as such we’ve decided to extend the open call for projects to March 15th. So if you’ve only just head about DMMF, or if you missed the deadline, fear not– there is still time! Apply here to be a part of Ireland’s biggest one-day festival of makers, crafters, and DIY scientists!

Science Hack Day Dublin 2013

Science Hack Day Dublin, is making a triumphant return after it debut in 2012. On the 2nd & 3rd of March ,”The Hub” DCU will be home to a 36 hour long making hack-a-ton! Not to be missed.

The idea of the event is to bring together designers, developers, scientists, artists in the same physical space for a brief but intense period of collaboration, hacking and building cool stuff. It just happens to be run by the some of the same happy people who are organising this years Dublin Mini Maker Faire, so it is guaranteed to rock your socks off.

It’s great opportunity to kick start a project you’ve put into the Dublin Mini Maker Faire open call (which closes 1st of March).

FROM SPACE.

Talk about being on the map. Dublin Mini Maker Faire 2012 was visible FROM SPACE.

No joke – the epic day of making that was Dublin Mini Maker Faire was big, but even we didn’t know it would get picked up on Apple’s maps app.

Now we could take credit and say we launched a rocket with a camera attached and submitted the photos to Apple, or that we calculated on which day the satellites were flying overhead and scheduled the faire for that day. Maybe it wasn’t even a satellite but rather a high-altitude plane doing photography to fill in the high-density parts of the map. But either way, those white tents, those rightly colored seats– it’s unmistakable.

Can we promise that Dublin Mini Maker Faire on July 27th, 2013 will be immortalised on Apple’s maps again? Was it a coincidence? You’ll just have to join us to find out. The call for makers is still open until March 1st.

Meet Up and Make: Jan 16th, Science Gallery

Time to get making again! That’s right, meet up and make with the Maker Faire team, other makers, and learn about what’s in store for Dublin Mini Maker Faire 2013.
We’re getting together on Wednesday January 16th at Science Gallery from 6-7pm. We’ll have a few nibbles, a bit of hands-on fun, and run through how you can get involved with the 2013 faire, which is taking place on July 27th, 2013.
Oh, and we’ll be launching the open call for makers for the faire!

Call for Makers: Dublin Mini Maker Faire 2013

Early warning all ye makers! The Dublin Mini Maker Faire call for makers will open on January 16th, 2013 (pending license approval from O’Reilly). If you are a member of a hackerspace, men’s shed, university, club, laboratory, blacksmithery, or submersible evil lair and would like some flyers and posters to help you spread the word, get in touch at info@makerfairedublin.com.

Fab Studio Opens in Dublin

Fab Studio ( formally Fab Lab Dublin) have just opened their new studio on Dawson Street, Dublin 2. They will be offering 3D printing, laser cutting and CNC milling to everyone through a mail-order service. We love to see makers get more access to these kinds of great tools. Also in the new year they have plans to run 3D Drawing & Making classes. We hope this is the start of industrial level tools being available to the general public. Maker Faire UK

Maker Faire UK is back this year after a one year hiatus. This faire is set to be the biggest maker event in all the UK this year. The event hopes to have 300 makers and is a huge crowd drawer. It takes place on April 27/28 in Newcastle. They have opened their call for makers, which runs until Sunday 20 January 2013. What better way to get ready for Dublin Mini Maker Faire than applying to Maker Faire UK.
